Agents whose clients are seeking history, night life, adrenaline-boosting adventure, good food, natural splendour – or a bit of everything – should consider suggesting a holiday to Malta.

VisitMalta has outlined 10 reasons why the destination should be on every wish list…

#1 Wine

Suggest clients take a vineyard tour

With limited amounts exported from Malta, the best place to try the region’s wine is on Malta itself, where visitors can enjoy crisp whites and fruity reds to perfectly compliment every meal. Private tours of vineyards are available and perfect for a sophisticated night out.

#2 Michelin Stars and other culinary delights

Malta is a foodies’ paradise

With six Michelin Star restaurants, Malta has made a rapid rise on the culinary map of Europe. For people wanting to eat on a budget, pastizzi are local delights filled with mashed peas or ricotta cheese and can be found for €1.

#3 Gozo

Malta’s sister island, Gozo, is the countryside escape for many Maltese people. With The Ggantija temples, the oldest free-standing structures in human existence, the Citadella, and beautiful views, Gozo – only 25 mins from Malta – is the perfect mini break.

#4 Ggantija Temples

Ggantija Temples

The oldest free-standing structures in human existence, located on the island of Gozo, the Ggantija Temples are at the heart of an ancient civilization. Who they were built for and for what purpose we don’t really know, but that’s half the mystery.

#5 Film Sets

As the location for many great films, such as Gladiator, Jurassic Dominion and World War Z, Malta is a film buff’s paradise. Small-screen epics such as Game of Thrones have also found the perfect set here, such as Ned Stark fighting Jaime Lannister in Mdina to Daenerys getting married in Gozo.

#6 Beaches

Golden Bay

With 13 Blue Flag recognised beaches Malta is an incredible place to get some rest and relaxation. Soft sandy beaches are dotted round the islands, and most are in gentle coves and bays providing a perfect swimming spot for families and young children.

#7 Popeye’s Village

The entire set of the 1980s film was built in Malta and is now an attraction in its own right, Called Popeye’s Village, where events take place throughout the year.

#8 Festivals

Isle of MTV

Isle of MTV is one of the largest festivals to be held in Malta each year and best of all it is free!

Many other festivals happen around the island from local Festas where you can see unique Maltese culture to BBC Operas where you can enjoy the notes of Mozart in a glorious setting.

There is a full list here.

#9 LGBTQI+

We are number one on the European Rainbow Index, Malta is one of the friendliest and most inclusive places to visit. Next month (7-17 September) Malta will host EuroPride Valletta – a celebration of love and acceptance where Christina Aguilera will be the headline act.

#10 Marsaxlokk

Marsaxlokk

This sleepy fishing village is located on the northeast of the island and is where the locals go for a nice Sunday lunch. Visit on the weekend and find the local fish market open as well as a market for shopping. Also take a ride on one of the traditional boats and feel the Mediterranean breeze on your face.
