Advantage Travel Partnership CEO Julia Lo Bue-Said has said passengers need ‘clear messaging’ in order to avoid delays at security after the Government pushed back installation of scanners at most major UK airports.
Julia said: “This summer is set to be incredibly busy for UK airports with millions of Brits travelling abroad, so it is vital that travellers have a clear understanding of the rules and restrictions in place at each airport in order to avoid any disruption.
“With travellers now facing different rules depending on their departure airport this could potentially result in significant delays at security unless they receive the necessary guidance beforehand. It is important that UK airports collectively work with the Government to ensure there is very clear messaging around the rules so both leisure and business travellers have complete clarity as to what is required.
“Implementing the next generation systems at airports around the world is a major task requiring significant infrastructure changes and it will inevitably take time for all worldwide airports to be aligned.
“Whilst it’s disappointing that not all airports will be ready in time before the summer, we hope to see the new scanners implemented seamlessly across all UK airports as soon as possible. We expect the removal of the 100ml liquid restrictions will increase the speed and efficiency of security checks while improving the overall airport experience for travellers.
“We would advise all travellers to continue travelling as usual and keep to the current 100ml rules, this way it won’t impact them if their departure airport has different rules to their inbound airport, or to check the requirements with the airports they’re using before their departure. Alternatively, they should speak to their travel agent who will be able to give them all of the most relevant, up to date travel advice.”
