Advantage CEO pays tribute to co-founder Terry Thornhill, who has died aged 83

Terry Thornhill, who founded agency chain Toucan Travel, has died aged 83.

Terry opened Toucan Travel in Tadley in 1982 and expanded the agency to seven branches. He was also a founding member of the independent agent consortium that became known as Advantage.

Advantage Travel Partnership CEO Julia Lo Bue-Said “We will remember Terry as a much-loved character in the industry with a huge passion for travel.

“He was a founding member of Advantage and without him we would not be where we are today. We will miss Terry and our thoughts and prayers go to his wife Barbara and his family.”

Terry was also involved in organising holidays for disabled people, which he also led as a tour leader working with the local charity ICE. He was award the BEM for services to the disabled community and other charity work.

He leaves his wife of 61 years Barbara, three daughters, five grandchildren and one great granddaughter.

Industry colleagues are invited to attend Terry’s funeral at Basingstoke Crematorium, Manor Farm Stockbridge Rd, North Waltham, RG25 2BA on 30 July at 12.30pm and afterwards at Northbrook Arms, Stratton Lane, East Stratton, Winchester, Hants, SO21 3DU.

The family has requested no flowers but donations can be made to Basingstoke Headway or St. Michael’s Hospice Basingstoke. More details here.
