Pan-Africa travel trade show Indaba has attracted 1,245 exhibitors, 145 more than expected.

The show, which is taking place in Durban in South Africa this week, is being attended by 75 delegates from the UK, including representatives from agent-friendly brands Major Travel, 2by2 Holidays and Encounters Travel.

Major Travel Director of Strategy and Development Abbas Datoo said: “Right now the value of money proposition in South Africa is just incredible.”

He said sales of the operator’s newly-launched Major Safaris brand have ‘exceeded expectations’.

“We have been selling Africa for a while but we launched Major Safaris last year after taking on some real Africa specialists,” added Abbas. “We wanted to tell the trade that we have a specialist team in place.”

Major Safaris has a team of three in the UK and a calls centre in Cape Town in South Africa. “It’s very much a service-driven product and agents are liking it,” added Abbas.

“Africa is good for agents because it is tailormade so they will make more money.”
