Welsh independent agency Bordessa Holidays has opened its first retail shop – and invited one of its most loyal customers to cut the ribbon.

The shop, in Carmarthen, officially opened yesterday, nine years after owners Mair Jones and Chris Bordessa launched the company from their garage.

Within two hours of opening, two new customers had walked in and made bookings – one for a £4,500 cruise and the other for a £2,000 holiday to Iceland, with more bookings coming in throughout the day after people spotted posts about the new shop on Bordessa’s Facebook page.

The new shop is next to an office that Bordessa moved into last year after its growing team got too big for the garage.

Mair said: “A year after moving to our office, the shop next door became available and we jumped at the chance to open our first retail store.

“Since we opened the office in town, we started to get people walking in.

“The office had a small customer section, but it just wasn’t big enough.

“Now we’ve opened next door, we can walk from the office to the branch. It’s perfect and we feel it will really improve the customer experience and entice more people to come in.”

In addition to selling holidays, Bordessa sells coach trips from local pick-up points, has a VIP hospitality box in Birmingham Arena and runs a separate company, Bordessa Caravans, which it set up during the pandemic, offering holidays at Trecco Bay, Wales’ biggest holiday park.

The new shop was officially opened by long-term customer Lucy Hughes, who has now become a friend to Mair and Chris.

Mair said: “Lucy’s been booking holidays with us for eight years. She books at least two or three a year, so she’s a great, loyal customer.

“What’s more, she’s told all her family and friends about me, so they come and book with us too.

“Lucy also comes on our coach trips, which we’ve been running for several years, and has become a very good friend.

“In fact, we went to Sandals in Jamaica in 2019 and we’re going to Sandals in Barbados in November.”

The team now consists of five people on sales and six on aftersales, including Chris’ brother Stephen, Chris’ son Devan and Mair’s Godsons Jack and Connor.
