Travel agents are invited to learn all about the peaceful Spanish island of Formentera at an event in Dublin later this month.

In addition to presentations about this Mediterranean jewel and networking sessions, agents will be treated to dinner and there will be a chance to win prizes.

Formentera lies just a short ferry ride away from big sister Ibiza, but this smallest of the Balearic Islands has a more relaxed, laid-back vibe.

With pristine beaches and thrilling sports activities, combined with fabulous food and a lively local ‘hippie’ atmosphere, Formentera ticks all the boxes for both chilled and adventurous holidays.

Formentera boasts some of the world’s most beautiful beaches. From the calm turquoise waters of Ses Illetes (above) to the rocky cliffs of Es Caló, every stretch of its coastline is unique.

For clients looking for an active holiday, there are amazing Green Routes, with hiking trails along the cliffs and a wide range of routes for cycling enthusiasts, from coastal roads to country lanes that pass through picturesque villages.

On the water, the range of activities includes paddle boarding, windsurfing and kite surfing, plus scuba diving and snorkelling for those who want to experience the island’s crystal-clear waters.

In fact, Formentera has long been a magnet for sports fans as it hosts numerous events every year, including the Formentera All Round Trail, the BTT Vuelta Cicloturista a Formentera, the Transmapi Windsurf and Windfoil Cup, and an annual half marathon.

It also has a year-round calendar of cultural events and festivals, such as Saint Days and Flower Power festivals, where visitors can experience authentic island life and celebrate its creative bohemian personality.

As the sun sets, the action continues in buzzing beach bars serving delicious cocktails.Of course, many holidaymakers just come to Formentera to relax, so whether they’re looking for a luxury spa or a yoga retreat on the beach, this unspoilt island provides the perfect backdrop.

Formentera’s cuisine is a feast for the tastebuds, offering a fusion of fresh, authentic Mediterranean flavours. Restaurants serve up superb quality local produce, such as freshly-caught fish, organic vegetables, home-grown honey and wine. Visitors must try peix sec (known as farmer’s salad,) frit de polp (fried octopus) and sofrit pages (with meat and potatoes) and calamars a la bruta (fried squid in its own ink). You’ll find out more about the island and why its slogan is Choose Your Formentera at the Travel Gossip Dublin roadshow, which will be held at the Radisson Blu Royal Hotel in Dublin on 29 May.

The event will kick off with arrival drinks at 6pm and wrapping up at 10pm. Agents will attend several bite-size presentations where they’ll learn all about Formentera, among other destinations, and have a chance to ask questions.
