Agents have been paying tribute to industry colleague Karen Rondan, who died last week.

Karen was well-known for the time she spent at Classic Collection, where she was responsible for long-haul sales and marketing. More recently, she was Bermuda Tourism Agency Sales Manager for the UK and Ireland, but she had also worked at Pickfords in St Neots.

Announcing the passing of her ‘fabulous’ former colleague on Facebook, Etihad Head of Commercial B2B Gemma Lazenby described her as ‘an inspiration’ and praised her ‘energy, kindness and positivity’.

“She had a long travel career, not only for having worked with us at Classic Collection for many years, where she is remembered for organising some incredible agent events, but also her time with the Bermuda Tourist Office and representing a number of hotels,” added Gemma.

Responding to the news, one Travel Gossip member said Karen ‘put her heart and soul into everything she did’. Others described her as ‘bubbly, enthusiastic and one of a kind’.

Another described Karen as ‘a force to be reckoned with’ as they recalled a fam trip to Sardinia where she helped ‘hijack a buggy’ to get them to their room to watch the Rugby World Cup. They added: “She also made me put on our first travel show, literally marched me to the village halls about 12 years ago – it’s such as successful part of our business now, all credit to her’.

One agent agreed that ‘not much got in her way when she had a plan’, adding: “She will always be remembered for her love of hiring a town crier!”

Karen’s positivity remained throughout her long battle with breast cancer, with which she was diagnosed in 2016. She was allergic to chemotherapy and other forms of treatment, so the cancer spread to her spine causing paralysis, causing her to be admitted to a hospice for several months inn 2017. However, she remained upbeat, publicly thanking staff at Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall in a local newspaper article for ‘putting her back together again’.

Gemma has promised to share details of Karen’s funeral with anyone who wants to attend, once they are finalised.
