Agents and other travel businesses have been supporting local charities and good causes with Christmas donations.

Travel agent Janette Ashby split the £500 she made on running a trip to the Trafford Centre between two local foodbanks and is also making up bags of toiletries, socks, gloves and hats for the homeless.

The JG Travel Group asked customers to knit, crochet or handmake a decoration for a Christmas tree, which is being donated to the Neonatal Unit at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital.

Agent Pamela Boulton runs a Christmas wreath workshop and donated £50 from attendees to the local Worthing Soup Kitchen.

Travel Buddy took bags of donations to a local women’s refuge in Bristol, while Tivoli Travel organised an elf hunt in the town centre of Mirfield to raise money for local charities.

Travel Counsellors launched a Mission Christmas charity drive, donating toys, books and gifts to local children, and also donated proceeds from a Christmas raffle to Reuben’s Retreat.

Audley Travel staff in London and Witney, Oxfordshire, donated more than 200 presents to Kensington and Chelsea Borough Council, and the Oxfordshire Toy Bank for underprivileged children in the areas.

City Cruises partnered with Action for Children, donating 30 cruising tickets to families in need.

Manchester Airport staff donated more than 1,000 presents, which went to care homes in the city, Family Action, which operates five Children’s Centres in Wythenshawe, and Wythenshawe Foodbank.

The foodbank’s Trustee Tony Petrou said: “We have been working hard to help feed the people in the local community and have tried to make sure no child is forgotten at this time of year.

“We’ve been giving out advent calendars and selection boxes but thanks to this donation we have also managed to extend this and offer toys to parents. This has helped us take some stress away from parents and make sure Santa visits more children this year.”
