Qatar Airways is investigating after 12 people were injured when their flight from Doha to Dublin hit turbulence over Turkey.

Dublin Airport said flight QR017 was met by emergency services when it landed on Sunday afternoon, and eight of the six crew and six passengers who were injured were taken to hospital.

Qatar Airways said: “A small number of passengers and crew sustained minor injuries in flight and are now receiving medical attention. The matter is now subject to an internal investigation.”

Meanwhile, Singapore Airlines said it has introduced new safety measures as part of a ‘more cautious approach to managing turbulence in-flight’.

It follows the death of a British man and injuries to 20 other passengers on last week’s London to Singapore flight, which hit turbulence.

“In addition to the suspension of hot beverage service when the seat-belt sign is on, the meal service will also be suspended.

“Crew members will also return to their seats and secure their seat belts when the seat-belt sign is on.”

Other measures include securing loose items in the cabin and galley to minimise turbulence-related injuries, advising passengers to return to their seats and buckle up, and monitoring passengers who may need assistance such as those in the toilet.
