Flights between Croatia and the UK were among those disrupted last night after an airport’s IT system was attacked by hackers.

Among carriers affected when Split airport’s IT system went down were British Airways, easyJet, TUI and Wizz.

Split airport’s Assistant Director Pero Bilas issued a statement saying that the reason for the ‘non-functioning’ of its IT system was a hacker attack.

He added: “Professional services are intensively working to eliminate the consequences of this attack.

“We are in contact with all airlines and together we are looking for alternative solutions. We ask all passengers for patience.”

The attack was carried out last night around 7.30pm, knocking out the system for approving take-offs and landings.

Several flights were disrupted, including easyJet’s inbound services from London, which were diverted to Venice and Dubrovnik, while its return flights were cancelled. British Airways and TUI flights departed several hours late.

The Foreign Office issued an update to its Croatia travel advice this morning, warning of ongoing disruption at Split airport, adding: “There may be delays to flights, monitor for any messages you may receive from your airline.”

However, Split airport said the situation had ‘started to normalise’ at around 10.30pm yesterday and flights appear to operating on schedule today.
