One Florida airport and attractions including the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex will remain closed today, as the clean up from Hurricane Milton continues.

Sarasota Bradenton International Airport, close to where Milton made landfall on Wednesday night, will stay closed while officials are ‘assessing conditions and beginning cleanup post Hurricane Milton’, the airport said on Facebook.

Tampa International Airport is due to reopen at 8am local time after shutting down on Tuesday. The airport said crews are clearing debris and repairing leaks in parts of the main terminal and gate hold areas. In addition, six boarding bridges connecting airsides to aircraft were damaged.

Domestic arrivals at Orlando International Airport resumed on Thursday evening while domestic departures and all international operations will resume today. Melbourne Orlando International Airport said it plans to open at 9am today ‘pending safe conditions’.

Busch Gardens Tampa Bay, and Adventure Island in Tampa will also stay closed today. They said teams were ‘evaluating the parks’, while Kennedy Space Center said it expects all attractions, exhibits and programmes to reopen on Saturday 12 October at 9am.

Walt Disney World has posted on social media to say it will reopen today, and Universal Studios’ parks and attractions will resume ‘normal operation’. Aquatica Orlando, Discovery Cove and SeaWorld Orlando are also expected to reopen, although SeaWorld has cancelled its Spooktacular and Howl-O-Scream events for today.

Tourist board Experience Kissimmee said the area, which is southwest of Orlando, was not badly damaged by the hurricane.

Its President and CEO DT Minich said: “Fortunately, damage was minimal, and we can confirm that tourism operations have gradually resumed.”
