ALDI Australia has moved into the travel industry, offering cut-priced holidays online.

The holidays are serviced by Ignite Travel, part of the Flight Centre Travel Group, and will be sold in a similar way to ALDI’s bi-weekly Special Buys, with a limited number of exclusive holiday deals that will be available until they have sold out.

ALDI Australia Group Director Rodney Balech said: “We are excited to be taking off in a new direction to make planning and booking a holiday a more enjoyable experience for Australians and in our signature, Good Different way with ALDI Holidays.

“With ALDI Holidays, we’re bringing our Special Buys to the skies, offering savvy travellers premium holiday options. From budget-friendly bliss to extravagant escapes, there are different levels of luxury for every keen explorer.”

Ignite Travel Group CEO Ryan Thomas said: “ALDI Holidays customers can expect incredible savings with these exclusively curated holiday packages including flights, local experiences and more, covering some of the most popular destinations around the world, that can conveniently be booked online or via the dedicated ALDI Holidays Sales Centre.

“The collaboration also aligns to our goal to support and grow our supplier channels to deliver an unparalleled distribution network for our partners where everyone wins. We’re excited about the future of our partnership with ALDI.”

ALDI previously entered the UK travel market space, setting up a dedicated alditravel.co.uk website in November 2008, and the group’s buying team attended World Travel Market in London to talk to potential suppliers. The URL now redirects straight to Aldi’s main website and it doesn’t currently sell holidays.

ALDI UK hasn’t responded to Travel Gossip’s request for a comment on whether the supermarket is likely to re-start selling travel over here.
