Ambassador Cruise Line’s ship Ambience ‘made contact’ with a container ship on arrival in Cape Town this morning, during strong winds.

Ambassador said: “Ambassador Cruise Line’s ship Ambience was involved in a berthing incident earlier today, 5 April 2024, in Cape Town, South Africa.

“At 05.55 UK, it was reported that Ambience made contact with the container ship, ‘Grey Fox’, while attempting to berth for the scheduled visit.

“Despite the assistance of two tugs and a Pilot, Ambience was unable to maintain position in strong, gusting winds and made contact with the container ship, which was already alongside. Both ships report only minor damage and there is no water ingress or pollution.

“No injuries have been reported to either guests or crew, and Ambience is now safely alongside, close to the cruise passenger terminal. She has been cleared and the gangway was opened for guests to disembark at 08.45 local time.

Ambience’s departure time is expected to remain as scheduled at 23.00.”

Meanwhile, Ambassador’s ship Ambition has had to cancel its planned call in Falmouth today, also because of strong winds.

The cruise line said: “Ambition has unfortunately had to cancel today’s planned call in Falmouth. Strong winds are forecast along the south coast, and it would be high risk to try and berth the ship.

“We have been studying the forecasts and regrettably, the winds are forecast to continue through the weekend. With this in mind, we have agreed with the Captain to proceed directly to Tilbury as scheduled on 7 April 2024.

“We sincerely apologise to guests for any inconvenience caused by these unavoidable changes to our itinerary, the safety and security of everyone on board is always our first priority.”
