American Queen Voyages has cancelled three cruises on its paddlewheel steamboats, American Countess and American Queen this month.

The operator has confirmed the Mississippi River sailings on 22 and 25 February on American Countess and the 26 February cruise on American Queen have been cancelled due to an extended lay up ahead of the 2024 season.

Light Blue Travel, which represents American Queen Voyages in the UK, said it was in touch with affected passengers.

In a statement, the company said: Unfortunately American Queen Voyages has cancelled the first February sailings for the two Mississippi paddlewheelers American Queen and American Countess. The vessels have been in layup during January preparing for the new season and unfortunately it had to be extended longer than anticipated.

“We had very few customers booked at this time of year and those affected in the UK have been contacted and offered our profuse apologies and either rebooked or refunded.”

US media outlets including Travelwires are reporting that some American travel agencies including Pleasant Holidays and Signature Travel Network have recently halted sales with the cruise line due to service issues, which Light Blue Travel said related to commission.

A spokesperson for Light Blue Travel added: “The commission issue that some US trade organisations have raised does not affect our UK trade partners selling American Queen Voyages’ cruises.”
