Australian’s newest budget airline, Bonza, has gone into voluntary administration, cancelling all flights and leaving passengers stranded.

The Queensland-based airline was set up last year by former Virgin Blue Head of Commercial Distribution Tim Jordan.

Local media reports its fleet of eight Boeing 737 Max aircraft have been repossessed by creditors, although the airline has not confirmed this.

Bonza said: “We apologise to our customers who are impacted by this and we’re working as quickly as possible to determine a way forward that ensures there is ongoing competition in the Australian aviation market.”

Qantas, Jetstar and Virgin Australia have all offered free travel, where available, to stranded passengers.
