British Airways’ flights to and from London Heathrow continue to be disrupted today following a failure of its IT systems.

Around 25,000 passengers are thought to have been affected as the airline has been forced to cancel dozens of domestic and European flights.

The BA website is believed to have gone down just before lunch time yesterday, preventing passengers from checking in, both online and on the app.

Dozens of outbound and inbound flights were cancelled on Thursday and a further 82 inbound and outbound flights are cancelled today, at the start of the busy bank holiday weekend.

A BA spokesperson added: “While the vast majority of our flights continue to operate today, we have cancelled some of our short-haul flights from Heathrow due to the knock-on effect of a technical issue that we experienced yesterday.

“We’ve apologised to customers whose flights have been affected and offered them the option to rebook to an alternative flight with us or another carrier or request a refund.”

The cancellations are believed to be on routes where BA has multiple frequencies so passengers can be transferred to alternative flights.

BA suffered a similar outage in February 2022, when its website and app became inaccessible for a number of hours.
