British Airways is reportedly planning to partner with transatlantic rival JetBlue, which will allow both airlines to expand their networks in Europe and the US.
JetBlue is understood to have applied to the US Department of Transportation for approval to codeshare with BA on 75 routes in the US and 17 in Europe.
If approved, the agreement would allow BA and JetBlue to sell seats on each other’s flights.
The initial deal, as reported by US publication Paxeo-Aero, covers 39 routes from New York, 36 from Boston and 17 from London.
However, BA, which already has a long-standing codeshare deal with American Airlines, has so far not commented on the proposal, first revealed by Paxeo-Aero on Wednesday.
JetBlue said in a statement released to Paxeo-Aero: “We are always looking for new ways to offer our customers more choice when travelling.”
The US airline’s schedule for the coming winter reveals that it has significantly reduced its capacity to Europe from October 2024 to March 2025.
JetBlue flights that have been dropped for winter include its services from London Gatwick to New York and Boston, while its twice-daily service between Paris and New York will reduce to daily.
