A British Airways supervisor is believed to have fled to India after he was accused of organising a £3 million immigration scam at London’s Heathrow Airport.
The 24-year-old, who was based at Terminal 5, is alleged to have skipped bail and run away with his BA ground services partner, according to The Sun
It is claimed that, over a five-year period, the supervisor helped multiple clients travel from the UK to other countries without the relevant visas, for a fee of £25,000.
His clients, mostly from India, would fly to the UK on temporary visitor visas and he would arrange for them to travel on to somewhere else.
Some of his clients were UK-based asylum seekers who were worried they would be returned to their home countries.
Canadian authorities started an investigation after noticing multiple passengers on BA flights were immediately claiming asylum on arrival in Toronto and Vancouver, and they found they were all checked in by the same person who falsely verified they had an electronic travel authorisation to enter Canada.
The BA supervisor was arrested on 6 January and he is believed to have flown to India after he was bailed.
