British Airways is set to resume flights to Tel Aviv on 1 April but with a significantly scaled down service.
It will operate four flights a week from London Heathrow, and, until 31 May, these will stop in Cyprus for 45 minutes for a crew change. Flights from Tel Aviv to London will operate non-stop.
Prior to the Hamas attack on Israel on 7 October, BA was operating up to two direct flights a day from Heathrow to Tel Aviv, using two Boeing 787 aircraft.
From 1 April, BA will operate the flights with a smaller Airbus A320. It will still offer a business class service, but unlike the B787, it won’t offer lie-flat beds.
A BA spokesperson said: “We’ve taken the commercial decision to move Tel Aviv to our short-haul network when we restart our flights on 1 April.
“This aligns these flights with other similar length flights we operate, and we’ll keep this decision under review.”
Customers already booked on flights to and from Tel Aviv will be contacted and offered the option to rebook onto a new short-haul flight, request a refund or re-book onto an alternative service.
EasyJet is selling flights to Tel Aviv from London from 17 March, operating up to five times a week from Gatwick and Luton. Virgin Atlantic has flights to Tel Aviv on sale from 6 September.
