The Travel Network Group is rearranging the timetable for its overseas conference in Munich because of major flight disruption caused by the bad weather.

More than 500 delegates had been due to attend the Your Story, Your Success Conference, starting today (4 December) and due to finish on Wednesday 6 December.

However, following the cancellation of four flights from the UK, only 230 delegates are now scheduled to arrive.

TTNG CEO Gary Lewis said: “We are hugely disappointed that some of our members, business partners and guests can’t join us in Munich for our event.

“Our team has worked tirelessly over the past 14 hours to rebook as many delegates as we could and we have managed to rebook over 100 seats on different flight arrangements, either via Salzburg, Zurich or Stuttgart.

“We are incredibly humbled by the response from our members and business partners; they have all shown understanding to this situation which is outside of our control.

“Our plan is to run a re-arranged timetable of the whole conference, for those delegates that can make their way to Munich and we are also equipped to run a live stream of the event for the attendees who sadly could not join us.”

Agent Lynne Woodward, owner of Coddiwomple Travel in Wallasey, Wirral, was among delegates due to travel this morning from Manchester.

She told Travel Gossip: “We travelled from the Wirral and stayed overnight at the airport.

“We were supposed to fly at 06:25 this morning. We got an email from TTNG at 01:49 telling us that our flight had been cancelled. They had tried to get us on the next Lufthansa flight but with no joy. We have been told to wait further instruction.

“We are just waiting now, but I think we will be missing our conference, which is upsetting as it’s the first one since the pandemic.

“I feel really sorry for the TTNG team who are already out there, set up and ready to go.

“Quite a few of us stayed at the airport as it was such an early flight. We’re going to hang around at little longer in the hope of a Christmas miracle.”

Some delegates have been rerouted to other airports and will then make their way to Munich on public transport.

Inspired Travel Managing Director Kate Harris travelled from Lincolnshire to Birmingham on Saturday for an early morning flight on Sunday, which was cancelled. She and her colleague Gaynor then took a taxi to Heathrow and stayed overnight before getting on a flight to Frankfurt this morning.

She said: “We have a three-and-a-half hour train journey once in Frankfurt, but it will be worth it as it’s been so long coming and I have operators that I really want to see.”

Munich Airport closed on Saturday, with 760 flights affected. The airport reopened on Sunday, although there are still widespread delays and cancellations.

Bad weather forced Glasgow Airport to suspend flights for around three hours on Saturday morning, while Manchester Airport faced delays.

Travellers to and from Amsterdam saw a total of 850 cancellations throughout Sunday morning, due to weather conditions.
