Rules banning loudspeakers and large tour groups in Venice have now come into force.

Authorities announced earlier this year that loudspeakers and tour groups with over 25 people would not be allowed from 1 June.

In April, Venice became the first major city in the world to implement a €5 charge for day visitors.

The entrance fee will apply on 29 peak days, mostly weekends, until 14 July, for day visitors aged over 14.

There were protests when the charge came into effect and the city’s former Mayor told tourists not to pay it.

People without a ticket could be fined between €50 and €300. The fee applies to visitors to the Old City, but not the islands.
