Boeing is warning airlines that deliveries of new 737 MAX planes could be delayed after the manufacturer hit a production issue.
The delays could affect a number of airlines, including Ryanair and TUI.
Ryanair is one of Boeing’s biggest MAX customers, having ordered more than 210 in total, although it has already received at least 96.
TUI Group ordered 72 MAX jets, of which at least 25 have been delivered.
US carriers United Airlines and Southwest have the most 737 MAX planes on order, followed by flydubai and Lionair, with Ryanair the fifth biggest customer.
Boeing said its supplier has informed them the installation of fittings on the rear of the plane don’t follow the standard.
In a statement it said: “This is not an immediate safety of flight issue and the in-service fleet can continue operating safely.”
Boeing said it had notified the FAA, which oversees flight safety in the US, adding that it is replacing the ‘non-conforming fittings’ where necessary.
It has told airlines that they should expect ‘lower near-term’ deliveries until the required work is completed.
Shares in the US-based company fell more than 5% in after hours trade, according to the BBC.
