Flights at Bristol Airport were temporarily grounded this morning when the runway was forced to close due to a technical fault.

In a post on X just before 6am, the airport said it had a problem with the airfield lighting equipment.

Flights resumed at around 7.30am but an airport spokesperson told Travel Gossip: “Some delays are still expected throughout the rest of the day and customers are advised to check with their airlines for the latest information.”

Flight data site Flightradar24 revealed Bristol’s early morning departures were delayed around 90 minutes, but since 8am flights appear to be operating with only very minor delays.

Jet2 posted a message on its website stating that, despite the unscheduled runway closure, its Bristol flights today are still scheduled to operate on time.

It added: “Our UK-based operations teams will keep you updated via SMS and email. If you need any help at the airport, a member of our Red Team will be happy to help.”
