A British child who was among four youngsters stabbed in an attack at a playground in France was on holiday.

The girl is in a critical condition following the attack in Annecy this morning (Thursday).

The Telegraph reports French authorities have confirmed she was on holiday with her family.

French prosecutors said a Dutch child and two from France were also attacked, along with two elderly men.

The children are aged between 22 months and three years. At least two of the children and one of the adults have suffered life-threatening injuries.

The attacker is a Syrian national who had refugee status in Sweden.

The UK Foreign Office has updated its advice to Brits travelling to France.

It said: “On 8 June, there was an attack in Annecy, South East France. Six people, including four children, were injured. If you are in the area, follow the advice of local authorities.

“If you require consular support, call the British Consulate in Paris on +33 (0)1 44 51 31 00.”
