Flights to and from the UK were among those cancelled or delayed after protestors glued themselves to a runway at Cologne-Bonn airport this morning.
All flights were suspended just before 6am after five members of the climate activist group Last Generation stuck their hands to the tarmac.
The airport posted a message on the social media site to say it was resuming operations at 9.15am, but it warned flight disruption would continue.
British Airways’ flights between London Heathrow and the German airport have been delayed, while Eurowings has cancelled its flights between Edinburgh and Cologne.
Last Generation has announced plans for similar protests at other European and North America airports to draw attention to the climate crisis.
