Two London travel agents missing in Sweden are believed to be victims of a double murder, after two bodies were found in a burnt-out hire car.
Police haven’t formally identified the victims, but it’s believed they are Juan Cifuentes, 33, and Farooq Abdulrazak, 37, who travelled to Denmark and Sweden for a business trip and had been due to return to the UK on Sunday.
The men’s families launched a social media appeal after they did not come home and have not been in contact.
Farooq is CEO and founder of Empire Holidays a travel company in north London and Juan also works for the agency. Empire Holidays’ Facebook page says it specialises in budget holidays, hotels, honeymoons and transfers.
Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet said the Toyota Rav 4 that was found burnt out had been rented at Copenhagen airport after two Britons flew from Heathrow. Another newspaper, Sydsvenskan, said CCTV showed three people may have been inside when it drove over the Oresund Bridge to Sweden.
The Daily Mail reports a relative of Juan said the burnt-out car is the one the men rented.
“The Swedish police have been in contact with us and are providing updates on the situation. They believe the two men in the car are possibly Juan and Farooq but the bodies are yet to be identified,” the relative said.
Although the police haven’t formally identified the bodies, local media reports say they are British and may have been shot before the fire started.
A police spokesman said: “The incident is currently being investigated as a murder. Several witnesses have been interviewed and the police are interested in further observations and tips.”
The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office said: “We are supporting the families of two British men reported missing in Sweden and are in touch with the local authorities.”
