British holidaymakers heading to Spain this summer could be hit with delays and cancellations after Spanish pilots’ union SEPLA warned of more strike action.
If SEPLA decides to go ahead, flights with Ryanair, easyJet, Jet2, Norwegian, Iberia, Air Nostrum, Air Europa, Eurowings and Vueling could all be affected during the summer season, Canarian Weekly reports.
Strike days on 22, 23, 25, 26, 29 and 30 May, and 1 and 2 June have already been announced at all airports across Spain.
However, SEPLA has warned of more strikes unless an agreement is reached with the Spanish Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agency.
The union is currently unhappy with the ‘minimum services’ law that requires pilots to report to work to service a minimum 90% of scheduled flights even while engaged in labour action to protest pay rates.
On a recent strike day, 90% of Air Nostrum and Air Europa flights still operated during strikes by pilots, with fewer than 20 cancelled.
SEPLA Secretary General Javier Fernandez-Picazo said more significant strikes were definitely something they were considering.
SEPLA is reportedly trying to get air traffic controllers and cabin crew to join its strikes.
