Jet2holidays remains the UK’s biggest package holiday company, with a licence to carry almost one million more customers this year than closest rival TUI.

Latest figures from the Civil Aviation Authority show that Jet2holidays plans to take 6.7 million customers abroad this year, while TUI is planning to take 5.85m.

We Love Holidays is the third largest, with a licence for 4m passengers, followed by Booking.com with 2.4m.

EasyJet holidays makes up the top five, with plans to carry 2.3m this year.

The CAA revealed that 1,630 businesses are currently licensed under the ATOL scheme.

However, some 33 companies chose not to renew their licences at the end of March when they expired. A further 20 licence renewals are still being processed, said the CAA.

The CAA’s Head of ATOL Michael Budge said that while demand for holidays is continuing to grow over the next 12 months, there is concern about pressure on household budgets.

“We will continue to pay close attention to operator’s booking profiles and in particular the bookings for the popular summer departure period,” he added.
