Cabin bag liquids restriction reintroduced at EU airports

Airports across the EU have reintroduced a ban on passengers carrying liquids in containers of more than 100ml in their hand luggage.

Several countries had eased restrictions on carry on baggage after introducing new CT scanners that were designed to detect explosives in liquids.

However, the EU said in July that it was temporarily reintroducing the 100ml rule from 1 September due to a technical problem.

The European Commission has discovered that the performance of the new scanners ‘did not meet the standard for which it had been approved’.

The UK Government had already reimposed a ban on liquids over 100ml in hand luggage at all airports, including those few that have already installed the new scanners.

It is not known when the restriction on liquids will be permanently lifted.
