Wales-based agent Wonky Sheep Travel has launched an escorted tour to Argentina, which includes spending St David’s Day in the Welsh-speaking part of Patagonia.
Dave Dulin set up Wonky Sheep Travel 11 years ago as a side business, originally because friends asked him to arrange stag holidays. After that, he moved into selling football trips and then business travel. He started organising more leisure travel last year.
He said: “This company was born out friends asking me to arrange stag dos, so that was our first market. Then football travel came from friends asking for trips to be put on and it’s currently our biggest market.
“I’ve always been of the opinion that if there’s enough interest in something, then we’ll look at doing it.
“Now this Argentina trip has come about from friends saying they wanted to be in the Welsh-speaking part of Patagonia on St David’s Day and the interest has grown so we’re doing it.”
The two-week trip includes Buenos Aires, Iguazu Falls, Mendoza and being in Patagonia for 1 March 2025. The tour, which starts at £3,500 per person, has space for up to 50 people.
He said details of the St David’s Day celebrations are still being fine-tuned, but he is talking to a Welsh-speaking community in Patagonia about putting something together, which will include a traditional Argentinian asado dinner.
There are about 70,000 Welsh Patagonians, about 20,000 of whom are descended from the 150 early Welsh settlers who moved to the area in 1865.
