Caribbean island hopping

The Caribbean is made for multi-centre holidays, with so many islands offering totally different experiences that can be combined to create unique packages.

It’s a good idea to start and finish an itinerary on islands that can be reached by direct flights from the UK. Currently, British Airways, Virgin Atlantic, TUI and Norse fly to islands including Antigua, Bahamas, Barbados, Bermuda, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Grenada, Jamaica, Saint Lucia, Trinidad and Turks and Caicos.

Since Virgin Atlantic’s flights from London and Manchester to Barbados also stop in Grenada, it’s easy to combine these two islands into a twin-centre package. Customers are able to book the short hop between the two with Virgin.

Other Caribbean islands can easily be paired using inter-island flights from regional airlines like LIAT and InterCaribbean Airways which also fly to smaller destinations like the British Virgin Islands, Guyana, Puerto Rico and Belize.

Perfect combinations include a beach resort in Antigua with Aruba, which is famed for its pink flamingos, or with Tobago, home to the world’s largest brain coral, or twinning the rainforests and beaches of St Lucia with the spice island of Grenada.

Clients also have the option of island hopping by ferry, catamaran or even private speedboat. Some of the most scenic sea routes are St Vincent to the Grenadines, Antigua to Montserrat and St Martin to Anguilla.

Some destinations are a collection of islands, sharing a common history and culture; these include Turks and Caicos, the Bahamas, St Kitts and Nevis, and St Vincent and the Grenadines. They’re often located close to each other, so easy to combine as a multi-centre.

Alternatively, why not suggest a Caribbean cruise? There are many cruises departing from ports in Florida and sailing to either the east or west Caribbean.

Caribbean island hopping by cruise

Eastern Caribbean cruises include the Bahamas, Turks & Caicos, the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, St Maarten and St Thomas; western Caribbean cruises include Jamaica, Mexico, Belize, the Cayman Islands and Honduras.

Marella and P&O Cruises offer sailings from Bridgetown in Barbados, which can easily be twinned with a pre- or post-cruise stay on the island.
