Celebrity Cruises’ new President says it will base a second ship in the UK if bookings continue to be strong.

Next year, 2,910-passenger Celebrity Apex will sail out of Southampton for the first time.

The Edge-series ship will replace the older Celebrity Silhouette, which will move to Holland for summer 2024, leaving a single ship sailing from the UK.

Laura Hodges Bethge, who took over as Celebrity Cruises President earlier this year, said: “The UK market is our second largest market and it continues to grow.

“It’s very possible that we grow to two ships in the UK. It’s on the horizon and it will happen if the UK market continues on this trajectory.”

Basing Celebrity Apex at Southampton next year was ‘not only a testament to how important we think the UK market is, but how it’s delivering for us’, added Laura.

“It’s been fantastic to upsize what we’re doing in the UK,” she said. “We wanted to make sure we had an Edge-series ship in each of main destinations next summer.

“We have Apex out of Southampton, Ascent in the Mediterranean and we’ll have Edge in Alaska.”

Celebrity Beyond, the line’s fourth Edge-class ship, will operate from Fort Lauderdale in Florida.
