The Members’ Committee and the Board of Directors have decided to align ABTA member requirements under the Code of Conduct relating to surcharging with those in the Package Travel Regulations. This relates to fluctuations in costs such as fuel costs, exchange rates or taxes or fees, after a client has booked a package holiday.

Members may choose to offer their clients a no-surcharge guarantee but, if surcharges are to be passed on, the ABTA Code of Conduct no longer requires members to absorb an amount equal to 2% of the holiday cost. If the surcharge exceeds 8% of the holiday cost, the client has the option to cancel the holiday and receive a full refund and no surcharges can be passed on less than 20 days before the start of the holiday.

Members reserving the right to pass on surcharges must state this in their booking conditions and any reduction in the relevant costs must be passed back to customers. Our model for package holiday booking conditions is there to help you and has been updated. Revised booking conditions will only apply to new bookings, remember that existing bookings come under the conditions that applied at time of booking.

The Code has also been updated to refer to the Members’ Committee now it has replaced the Code of Conduct Committee and Membership Committee.
