Cruise body CLIA has announced it biggest-ever trade engagement campaign over the next 12 months, including regional ship visits for agents across the UK and Ireland.

The ship visits, taking place in August, have been arranged in partnership with various cruise lines.

Each one will include updates from industry leaders, as well as a tour and complimentary lunch.

They comprise:

Seabourn Quest on 1 August 1 in Dover

Norwegian Dawn on 4 August in Newcastle

– Holland America Line’s Zuiderdam on 11 August in Belfast

Crystal Serenity on 22 August in Southampton

– Oceania Cruises’ Vista on 25 August in Liverpool

Agents will be able to secure their place via the CLIA website shortly.

CLIA Managing Director Andy Harmer announced the programme at CLIA’s largest-ever UK conference, which was attended by more than 750 delegates.

Some 65% of agents attending the conference, held in Southampton, were first-timers.

More than one in five of the agents said they had never been on a cruise ship before the conference and 26% admitted to having ‘limited’ cruise knowledge.

While in Southampton at the CLIA conference, they were able to visit Royal Caribbean’s Anthem of the Seas, MSC Virtuosa or Fred Olsen’s Balmoral, plus both Celebrity Silhouette and the world’s newest ship, P&O Cruises’ Arvia.

Agents were also given the opportunity to win free holidays on multiple cruises during the three-day conference, which was themed Cruise Heroes.

CLIA MD for UK & Ireland Andy Harmer said: “This was our largest ever CLIA conference, and I’m thrilled to say it proved a huge success, with great initial feedback from agents and the wider industry.

“The trade are all ‘cruise heroes’, and with so many new delegates joining us, it’s clear more agents than ever before can see the opportunities and advantages of cruise.

“We’re so excited to announce our superhero-charged programme of events, with the widest ever choice of ship visit openings, domestic and overseas events, and virtual training opportunities.

“This approach recognises people like to learn, engage and network in different ways. It also recognises agents have a range of requirements, from focussing on certain sectors such as expedition and river cruise, to those who want to explore ships, to those who want to be inspired by experts, to those who have just started their cruise selling journey.

“We are encouraging all agents to take advantage of this wealth of opportunities, as cruise continues to go from strength-to-strength.”

CLIA has also announced that its annual Cruise Week will be held from 18-24 September, which will see a wealth of agent-friendly initiatives.

Next year’s river cruise conference will be held in Amsterdam, with the date yet to be confirmed.

This year’s river cruise residential will be held on 28-29 September, with the venue to be confirmed.

A CLIA ‘Destination Residential’ will be held in the Portuguese city of Porto in the autumn, when all delegates will be hosted onboard Norwegian Prima. There will be ship visits to Seabourn Ovation and a number of river cruise ships, plus a series of sessions with destination experts and an opportunity to join local tours and excursions in Porto.

In addition, CLIA will be hosting a number of specialist cruise webinars covering Europe, worldwide river cruise, plus ultra-luxury, expedition and yacht and sail. They will take place in June, September and October. Agents can sure their place via the CLIA website shortly.

Two new expedition dinners in London and Manchester on 16 and 18 October respectively will feature presentations from experts in the sector. Andy also announced that CLIA will shortly launch a specialist Facebook page exclusively for river, expedition and ultra-luxury cruises.
