The crew on Royal Caribbean International ship Mariner of the Seas were called into action on Sunday (25 June) after a passenger slipped overboard, reportedly while taking a photo.
The incident happened as the 4,000-passenger Voyager-class ship sailed to its first port of call on the island of Curacao in the Caribbean.
A female passenger was sitting on the ship’s railing to take a photo when she slipped and fell into the water, according to Cruise Hive.
However, the exact circumstances of the incident have not been confirmed by the cruise line.
The ship was turned around, the pilot boat was dispatched and the passenger was brought back on board after a smoke flare was used to mark their position in the water.
The ship resumed its course shortly after the passenger was rescued and the incident had no impact on the ship’s overall itinerary.
Mariner of the Seas is currently sailing an eight-night Southern Caribbean & Perfect Day itinerary that departed Port Canaveral on 23 June.
Royal Caribbean International said: “On Sunday, a guest went overboard on Mariner of the Seas. The ship and crew immediately reported the incident to local authorities and began searching for the guest.
“Thankfully, the guest was successfully recovered and was brought on board. Our Care team is now offering assistance and support to them and their traveling party.
“Out of privacy for the guest and their family, we have no additional details to share.”
