Silversea has confirmed that its reservations team will be ‘largely’ based in the Philippines in future.

The shift to Manila will lead to a number of redundancies among the UK team, the cruise line confirmed.

It declined to say how many positions would be lost in the UK, adding that it was ‘fewer than 100’ employees globally and ‘a very small fraction’ of its total workforce.

A Silversea spokesperson added: “We have designed and implemented a global service model offering enhanced and more personalized service to our trade partners and guests. We are committed to supporting any impacted employees during this time and providing them with assistance.

“We will continue to drive growth with our travel advisory partners and support them in the most efficient and effective way possible. One of the ways to achieve this result is by creating a global trade reservation team leveraging our global footprint and capabilities.”

Silversea confirmed that the global trade reservations team will be based in Manila, supported by its operations globally.

There are currently more than 700 calls centres in the Philippines, according to outsourcing firm KDCI, employing 1.3 million customer support agents.
