River cruise operator Vantage Travel has told customers it has experienced ‘a data security incident’.

In a Facebook post, the company said its phone lines, email, operational software were all affected.

It has launched a temporary website, govantagetravel.com to provide updates to customers with upcoming cruises.

The site says that its planned departures from Boston to Montreal on board Ocean Explorer will go ahead on Thursday, as will its cruise from Greece to Italy on Ocean Odyssey on Friday and its cruise on River Splendour from Amsterdam to Basel on 8 May.

But several customers have complained on social media that other trips were cancelled at the last minute by the US-based cruise line.

In its latest Facebook post, Vantage apologised to customers for the inconvenience. It said: “Please be assured that we are taking this matter seriously and have engaged a renowned national forensic firm to investigate the incident thoroughly.”

It added: “Our team is working tirelessly to resolve the network issues as quickly as possible, and we will keep you updated on any developments.”
