Princess Cruises’ Sapphire Princess has rescued 67 people after an engine room fire broke out on another ship.

The cruise line successfully transferred 51 passengers and 16 crew members from Wilderness Discoverer to Sapphire Princess on Monday (5 June) as the ship headed to Glacier Bay in Alaska, Cruise Hive reports.

The 2,670-passenger Sapphire Princess (pictured) was alerted by the US Coast Guard to assist the Wilderness Discoverer.

No passengers were injured during the incident and an investigation is under way to find out the cause of the engine room fire.

Princess Cruises told Cruise Hive: “Sapphire Princess dispatched a water shuttle to transfer all 51 of the passengers and 16 crew from the Wilderness Discoverer to the Princess ship.

“We are pleased to report there are no injuries and that our crew aboard Sapphire Princess are feeding and taking great care of these passengers.”

The line added: “Princess Cruises continues to work with the US Coast Guard and local authorities to support these passengers in their forward travel.”

Ten crew members remain on Wilderness Discoverer.

Sapphire Princess continues its seven-day Voyage of the Glaciers Alaska itinerary that departed from Vancouver on 31 May.
