Cunard was forced to cancel a transatlantic sailing from Southampton at the last minute on Sunday (23 April) due to a technical issue.

The line’s Queen Mary 2 ship had been scheduled to operate a seven-day cruise to New York.

The return sailing to Southampton from the US has also been cancelled.

Cunard told Travel Gossip that its customer care team and travel agent partners have contacted impacted guests.

“We are doing everything possible to provide support and make alternative travel arrangements,” said a Cunard spokesperson.

Affected passengers took to Twitter to express their frustration about the cancellations.

One posted: “Our QM2 crossing leaving NYC a week from today is also cancelled. Major juggling act going on here right now.”

Another wrote: “We received notification at 9.45am but already at port. But return flights booked by Cunard are also cancelled and last-minute flights cost a lot. Better than a breakdown at sea.”

Cunard has offered passengers a full refund and future cruise credit of 20% of monies paid.

They can use the credit on any Cunard sailing departing before 23 April 2025.
