Developing a talent pipeline through ABTA Education Partners

As an industry, we are still working hard to plug the talent gaps created by the pandemic. ABTA has been supporting members on this across a number of fronts, from our Be Part of Travel campaign to promoting apprenticeships, and our ongoing work with the ABTA Education Partners.
The Education Partners are universities and colleges that offer travel and tourism courses. There are 14 spread throughout the UK and the partnerships offer mutual benefits for ABTA members and education providers.
One aspect of the partnerships is the student representative programme, which connects students with ABTA members and Partners. Through this relationship the students are able to gain insight into the industry, and members are able to develop closer relationships with the local education providers. This creates the opportunity for members to share with colleges and universities the skills and knowledge needed for our sector, as well as gaining a better understanding of the qualifications people are achieving and how they are beneficial to their businesses.
Through Education Partners, members have been able to access students looking to enter the industry. Members have been able to use the network to promote roles within their business, with Intrepid recently appointing a student to a paid-placement position and a former ABTA student representative securing a business graduate placement at easyJet/easyJet holidays.
All this work is helping to shape the future talent in the industry – and supporting members to employ staff you need to help your business thrive.
