New York City was hit by a moderate earthquake this morning.
The US Geological Survey said the quake, which measured 4.8, was centred near Lebanon in New Jersey, about 40 miles west of New York City.
The Fire Department of New York said it has not heard reports of any significant damage, but residents said high rise buildings were shaking.
The quake was also felt in Philadelphia, Virginia and Connecticut.
New York is frequently hit by small earthquakes and has experienced 34 in the past 12 months.
