Michael East, who founded the Eastcastle Management Group of travel-related businesses, has died, aged 82.

Michael joined the travel industry in 1969 after qualifying as an accountant and working for a city firm that had Clarksons Holidays as one of its clients.

He joined Horizon Holidays in 1974, then moved to Singapore to become Managing Director of a manufacturing company.

After returning to the UK, he set up Eastcastle Management in the 1980s, advising companies on buying and selling.

He then expanded the group to include Argyle Executive Recruitment, Kingley Event Management and the news letter Travel Industry Digest, which initially was sent out to travel businesses by fax but later became known as e-tid after it went online.

Michael later sold e-tid and the event management business and became a Director of Gisby East, which was dissolved in 2021.
