EasyJet has cancelled hundreds more flights later this month due to proposed cabin crew industrial action in Portugal.

The low-cost carrier has axed a further 350 flights departing from Porto, Lisbon and Faro between 21 and 25 July, in addition to the 1,700 services that easyJet announced on Monday (10 July) it was cancelling over the summer.

EasyJet cabin crew in Portugal are set to strike for five days starting next week in a dispute over pay.

Last week, the Portuguese civil aviation flight staff union SNPVAC rejected the airline’s increased pay offer and demanded similar conditions to easyJet bases in other countries, according to Portugal Resident.

On Monday, easyJet apologised after it cancelled 1,700 flights out of a total of 90,000 across its network for the remainder of this summer. It blamed the war in Ukraine, which it said had caused ‘unprecedented’ air traffic control (ATC) delays.

The decision affected 180,000 passengers.

EasyJet said it would do everything possible to ‘mitigate the impact on our customers’ following the most recent flight cancellations.

It told customers travelling to and from Portugal on the strike days to check the status of their flights via its mobile app’s Flight Tracker.

The airline added that affected passengers had already been notified to allow them ‘to rebook for free or take a refund before they travel, if their flight is unfortunately cancelled’.

An easyJet spokesperson said: “We are extremely disappointed that SNPVAC is planning further strike action despite our willingness to continue constructive dialogue.

“Our crew pay is competitive and significantly above the Portuguese national average salary and our recent offer is very fair.”
