EasyJet is targeting annual profits of more than £1 billion, with around £250m to come from its package holiday arm.

To fuel its expansion, it has confirmed orders for 157 more aircraft, with options to buy a further 100.

EasyJet headline pre-tax profits for this financial year, to the end of September 2023, are expected to hit £440m to £460m, with easyJet holidays contributing around £120m.

In a trading update this morning, Chief Executive Johan Lundgren said: “We have delivered a record summer with strong demand for easyJet’s flights and holidays with customers choosing us for our network, value and service.

“This performance has demonstrated that our strategy is achieving results and so today we have set out an ambitious roadmap to serve more customers and deliver attractive shareholder returns, underpinned by a continued focus on costs and operational excellence.

“Our new medium-term targets provide the building blocks to deliver a PBT [profit before tax] greater than £1 billion. This will be driven by reducing winter losses, upgauging our fleet and growing easyJet holidays.”

Its capacity this quarter, up to the end of December, is up 15% year on year, it said.
