Eurostar will put on extra trains until Christmas, now yesterday’s strike by Eurotunnel workers has ended.

The unexpected strike caused mass cancellations on the LeShuttle Eurotunnel service as well as Eurostar’s trains, leaving thousands stranded.

Eurotunnel said yesterday the LeShuttle service would resume gradually from Thursday night, while Eurostar passenger trains would begin again today (Friday 22 December).

Eurostar said its timetable will resume today. It’s understood six extra services will be added. Trains are running but there are some delays this morning, which Eurostar said was due to ‘operational reasons’ and ‘longer than usual queues’ at Paris Gare du Nord.

Eurostar issued a statement late on Thursday night to say: “We have been informed the strike by Eurotunnel staff is now over.

“We will run a normal timetable to/from London on 22/12/2023.

“We’re also running additional trains to enable as many passengers as possible to rebook their journey before Christmas.”

It apologised to travellers affected by yesterday’s strike, but said it was ‘outside of our control’.
