Eurostar is warning that its trains between London and France are being delayed due to vandalism of the high-speed rail line.

While some trains are leaving on time, journeys are taking about 90 minutes longer as trains are being diverted onto other lines.

In a statement, Eurostar said: “Due to co-ordinated acts of malice in France, affecting the high speed line between Paris and Lille, all high speed trains going to and coming from Paris are being diverted via the classic line today Friday 26 July.

“This extends the journey time by around an hour and a half,” Eurostar said in a statement.

“Several trains have been cancelled.”

Thousands of people heading to the opening ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympics today are likely to be caught up in the disruption, including those from the UK.

Today is also expected to be one of the busiest days of the summer as families head to the Continent at the start of the school holidays.
