Expedition Cruise Network (ECN) members have seen an increase in group requests, longer trips, active and wellness, plus luxury programmes.

Some 67% said they had seen a rise in UK bookings in the first half of this year compared to the first six months of 2023, with over 25% reporting the UK growing faster than other international markets.

One member reported an 88% increase in bookings for the first half of the year, while another saw bookings for Antarctica more than double in February compared to February 2023.

ECN’s half-yearly review also found that while polar destinations are growing in popularity, there is strong interest in Iceland, Scotland, Indonesia, Melanesia, Fly the Drake cruises and the Galapagos.

Members have also seen a growing concern for climate change, environmental and wildlife issues amongst their clientele, said ECN, with many actively choosing more sustainable options.

ECN Chair Martin Johnson said: “This has been an incredible six-months for the expedition cruise sector in the UK and we are keen to progress and support our members and the trade that sells the products in the most sustainable way possible.”
