The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCDO) is continuing to update its warnings for Brits travelling to parts of central Europe that are being hit by Storm Boris.

The severe weather has caused disruption to trains and trams and left at least 16 people dead.

The FCDO is currently issuing warnings for Poland, Austria, the Czech Republic and Romania.

For Poland, the FCDO has said: “Heavy rain and flooding is causing severe disruption in the Lower Silesia (Dolnośląskie), Silesian (Śląskie) and Opolskie Voivodeships in southwest Poland. Check local conditions before you travel and follow the instructions of the Polish authorities if you are in these areas.”

The Lower Silesia region includes the city of Wroclaw.

For the Czech Republic and Romania the FCDO is warning of heavy rain and flooding in southern and eastern parts of the countries and advising travellers to ‘check local conditions before you travel’.

In Austria the advice is similar for the east of the country with warnings of road closures and disruptions to public transport.

The Austrian Federal Railways train network, ÖBB, has extended an urgent travel warning until Thursday (19 September) urging ‘all passengers to postpone non-essential journeys within this period to another time‘.

On Monday night roads near the Danube in Budapest were closed amid concerns the river is at risk of flooding from this afternoon (Tuesday). Tram and train lines are also being restricted in the city.

Weather in the region is set to improve this week and Storm Boris is forecast to move to northern Italy.
