Airlines have cancelled most flights at New Orleans airport this morning due to Storm Francine.

The Category 2 storm made landfall on the US southeast coast yesterday afternoon, knocking out power for thousands of homes and bringing the threat of a deadly storm surge to Louisiana, Mississippi, southern Alabama and western Florida.

Both Louisiana and Mississippi have declared a state of emergency, with the storm expected to bring flash flooding.

The National Hurricane Center has also warned of possible hurricane-force wind gusts in parts of Louisiana, including New Orleans.

The city’s main international gateway, Louis Armstrong International Airport, is open but airlines cancelled most flights from yesterday afternoon until early afternoon today.

The Port of New Orleans closed yesterday due to the storm, forcing Carnival Valor to delay its arrival this morning.
