British travellers with new e-visas currently aren’t allowed to enter India at Goa’s new international airport, which will be used by TUI Airways from this winter.
The Foreign Office (FCDO) has updated its travel advice to India to clarify that only paper visas are being accepted at Manohar International Airport, confirming travel agents’ fears.
Travellers who need a paper visa for India must apply in person at a visa processing centre in the UK.
Several agents have expressed concerns for clients who’ve booked trip to Goa following reports that Brits landing at Manohar with e-visas were being fined or refused entry.
The new FDCO travel advisory states: “Manohar International Airport in Goa is currently not designated for international arrivals on e-visas.
“If you are flying into Goa on an e-visa, please check your route with your airline before booking your flight.”
However, according to Air India, travellers with old e-visas that have already been used previously are permitted to enter at Manohar.
The airline is giving customers with newly-issued e-visas who booked on or before 7 August the option to switch to flights to Goa’s Dabolim airport, which still accepts e-visas.
Dabolim (GOI) was previously served by TUI, but the UK operator announced earlier this year that it was moving its winter flights from Dabolim to Manohar (GOX).
Travel Gossip has asked TUI if it is working with authorities in India for the new airport to accept e-visas for the start of its winter programme.
